Bancha
Tea Type: Green

A robust tea with a slightly dry but pleasant taste. It's strength of flavor means that it goes well with any food. It is said to have much calcium and iron, and is low in caffeine and tannins.

Bancha is made from the late season crop from Shimada, Sizouka prefecture. There are several harvests or flushes of tea leaf each year, Bancha is a traditional, daily-use, Japanese green tea variety that is made from mature leaves, picked in the summer or autumn. Because of the timing of the harvest it is considered a winter tea. Bancha's meaning references the coarser grades and heavier, late season crop from which this full flavored tea is made.
